To celebrate the World Radio Day, on February 13th, we have presented “Les Teresines pim pam pum”, a new comedy podcast that can be found weekly on the Catalunya Radio website and app

A La Cubana hem fet moltes coses (teatre al carrer, teatre dins dels teatres, concerts de música, saraus publicitaris, convencions empresarials, festes, inauguracions, pregons, exposicions… i fins i tot televisió), però mai havíem fet radio.

La direcció de Catalunya Radio ens va venir a buscar per fer-nos la proposta de fer un podcast de ficció en clau de comèdia. De seguida vam dir que sí, i quasi sense pensar-ho, ens vam posar a treballar amb molt d’entusiasme. Després d’estudiar-ho vam arribar a l’acord de fer-ho a través d’uns personatges molt coneguts i estimats de la nostra trajectòria: Les Teresines, unes senyores molt carismàtiques i emprenedores, capaces de fer de tot i a les que mai “els cauen els anells” per res.

La proposta consisteix en el de sempre: Un joc entre ficció i realitat, però en aquest cas jugant al teatre des de la radio: es tractaria d’una aposta valenta de la direcció de Catalunya Radio, que confia per primera vegada un programa (en aquest cas un podcast) a uns personatges que “son com son” i que “saben el que saben i no més”, perquè cada setmana parlin a la radio d’un tema seriós, però explicat a la seva manera i amb el seu vocabulari, acompanyades això sí, per veïns i “amics i coneguts “ de tota la vida, i també per personatges reals de tot tipus que les assessoren en cada tema.

Ha estat una experiència fantàstica, on hem après molt i que, a més, ens ha permès retrobar i reviure, després de 31 anys, a tot un univers de personatges i situacions esbojarrades molt estimades per nosaltres.

Aquest projecte, que l’hem anomenat “Teresines pim, pam, pum” consta d’un pròleg i vuit capítols escrits i dirigits per Jordi Milán, i en el que hi intervenen les actrius Mercè Comes, Mont Pans i Montse Amat interpretant les tres Teresines, així com també dels actors i actrius: Anna Barrachina, José Corbacho, Santi Millán, Xavi Tena, Filomena Martorell, David Ramírez, Meritxell Huertas, Maria Garrido, Nuria Benet, Àlex Gonzàlez, Toni Sans, Virginia Melgar, Gigi Figueras, Victor G. Casademunt, Pol Vinyes, i Jordi Milan així com també amb la participació especial en alguns capítols de: Santi Faro. Juliana Canet. Toni Clapes , Luis del Olmo  Carme Ruscalleda , Raul Balam , Oriol Mitja, T, Gemma Puig i Judit Masco.

In La Cubana we have done many things (theatre in the street, theater inside theatres, music concerts, advertising saaras, business conventions, parties, openings, proclamations, exhibitions… and even television), but we have never done radio before.

The management of Catalunya Radio came to us with a proposition to create a fictional comedy podcast. We immediately said yes, and almost without hesitation, we got to work with great enthusiasm. After studying what to do, we came to the idea to tell a story through some very well-known and beloved characters from our career: Les Teresines, a very charismatic ladies, capable of doing everything that comes to their mind without hesitation.

The project consists of the usual we do: It is a game between fiction and reality, but in this case playing through the radio enviroment: the brave management of Catalunya Radio decides to propose to Les Teresines (characters that are “who they are” and “who know what they know, and nothing more”) to talk every week in a podcast about a serious topic, but explained in their own way and with their own vocabulary. Tehy will be accompanied, of course, by neighbors and lifelong “friends and acquaintances”, and also by real characters who will advise them on each issue or topic.

Working in the podcast has been a fantastic experience for La Cubana, where we’ve learned a lot and which, in addition, has allowed us to rediscover and revive, after 31 years, a whole universe of characters and crazy situations that we love very much.

This project, which we have called “Teresines pim, pam, pum” consists of a prologue and eight chapters written and directed by Jordi Milán, and in which the actresses Mercè Comes, Mont Pans and Montse Amat take part, interpreting the three Teresines, as well as the actors and actresses: Anna Barrachina, José Corbacho, Santi Millán, Xavi Tena, Filomena Martorell, David Ramírez, Meritxell Huertas, Maria Garrido, Nuria Benet, Àlex Gonzàlez, Toni Sans, Virginia Melgar, Gigi Figueras, Victor G. Casademunt, Pol Vinyes, and Jordi Milan as well as with the special participation in some chapters by: Santi Faro, Juliana Canet, Toni Clapés, Luis del Olmo, Carme Ruscalleda, Raul Balam, Oriol Mitjà, Tomàs Molina, Gemma Puig and Judit Masco.

The prologue and the first chapter can be found on the Catalunya Radio website and through its App from 7pm. New episodes will be uploaded every week until the last one, which is the 8th.

Last Sunday, May 22, we have definitively farewelled Arturo. The show premiered in Valencia on May 18, 2018 and since then it has been performed in 31 Spanish cities (with the pandemic shut down included) and since February 2^nd of this year it had been installed at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona.

In total, more than 394,000 people have seen the show in the 600 performances that have been performed throughout the tour. In the four months in Barcelona, more than 94,000 people have seen the show in the 107 performances that have been done.

We want to thank precisely all this audience, who despite the adverse health circumstances, have come to see and support us. We feel proud and excited to see that, despite the years that have passed since we are a theatre company, we have managed to maintain a special bond with this loyal audience, and that, in addition, we have managed to pass on the love of theatre to new generations. We feel very satisfied!

And with this we also close a cycle of celebrations (although with some delay) the 40+2 years of existence of La Cubana. You know that we don’t really like “the goodbyes”, and yes, instead we like “the see you soon”. The time has come to engage in new projects, of which we hope to inform you very soon.

We inform you that Jaume Baucis Quer, a member of the company since 1988, has died of cancer this morning at the age of 64

The disease was detected in the summer of 2020 and that is why he could not participate in the “Adeu Arturo” season at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona.

All the people from La Cubana, despite the sadness of the news, feel comforted by all the experiences and all the moments that we have been able to live together throughout all these years.

Jaume joined La Cubana when the “Cubanadas a la Carta” (1988) and has participated in all the shows since then.

 

The past April 5th, the documentary «Beyond La Cubana» directed by Jordi Call and produced by Minoria Absoluta was premiered on TV3’s Sense Ficció.

The documentary reviews the 42 year history of the company throughout the voices of some of the 172 artists who have been part of the “La Cubana family”. It is an emotional journey through the beginnings of the company in Sitges, where a group of friends were doing amateur theater and unintentionally began to be recognized and afterwards, professionalized. It also travels through the most famous and remembered hits: «Cómeme el coco, negro» (1989), «Teresina SA» (1992) and «Cegada de amor» (1993). And it is also explains that La Cubana is a current adventure, which is reborn again and again from the ashes, and that excites the audience in each show with its style and the very characteristic way of doing things…

We are very happy to announce that we can finally “say goodbye to Arturo” in Barcelona. After visiting more than 30 cities throughout the state and after 300,000 people have come to farewell him already, it’s finally time to say goodbye to Barcelona once and for all. And since Arthur deserves it, we want to do it “as God commands” at the Teatre Coliseum. We will be performing there from February 2nd to May 22nd. We hope everyone who want it will come say goodbye to Aruro!

The Ateneus Awards gala, which has been held since 1989 by the Federation of Athenaeums of Catalonia (FAC), took place in the marquee that the Raluy Circus has set up at the Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona. This year is the first time that the Honorary Award has been given and it has born with the aim of giving value to entities, institutions or people related in some way to the world of athenaeum and who have stood out in their work in the community, civic, cultural or artistic.

In addition to La Cubana, awards were also presented in five categories: the Associative Communication Award, the Artistic Creativity Award, the Youth Award, Proposa!, the Networking Award and the Participation Promotion Award.

Today we have announced from the “catacombs” of the Teatre Coliseum (The Barcelona Billiards Club) that we will finally premiere ‘Adeu Arturo’ at the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona. The first performance will take place on February 2th, 2022 and we will be there until the 21st of May, not one more day. The exhibition ‘La Cubana 40+1: a voyage from ‘nothing’ until 2021’, installed at the Miramar Centre Cultural, will be extended until Christmas. Jordi Milán announced the great news after collecting the Honorable Mention Catalonia Theatre Award for the trajectory during the XX Catalunya Aixeca el Teló Gala.

We are very grateful to the almost 10,000 people who have visited the exhibition. We are not only surprised by the reception at the level of numbers: we are very happy with the comments of the visitors who have written in the book at the end of the exhibition or through our social media channels.

Thanks to the great reception of the exhibition, the Sitges City Council has decided that the opening dates will be extended until the Christmas holidays. So everyone who has not seen it yet will still have a few more months to come and enjoy our useless junk (very well placed and illuminated, to be fair) that fills the Miramar Centre Cultural up to the top… The visitor will be able to enter to our universe and travel the 40+1 years of the company.

For the Covid measures not more than 20 people every 15 minutes is allowed to enter the exhibition. It is recommended to buy tickets in advance.
